The Professional Left Podcast with Driftglass and Blue Gal

"Fiercely and unapologetically progressive, and definitely NSFW. 'The Professional Left' features award-winning bloggers Driftglass and Blue Gal as they skewer right-wing absurdities and dismantle mainstream media mealy-mouths with razor-sharp wit and zero filter. From mercilessly mocking partisan hacks to elevating stories the media ignores, it's the profane, unflinching political commentary you didn't know you needed. More at http://ProLeftPod.com."

    The Best
Love this podcast! BG & DG are astute political thinkers. Love your perspective on Brooks & the NYT. No Fair remembering is a favorite. I often have flashbacks when you walk down political memory lane. I am a former Chicago dweller, a patreon member & a fighter for democracy. Thanks for your hard work & your dedication to democracy.
  • The Awesome Show
    Finally The Truth!
Driftglass & Blue Gal cut through legacy media’s wishy-washy takes with sharp truth. They expose right-wing lies that misled millions and doomed a third of the country to support Trump. Essential listening!

    Greatest podcast ever
I’m going to say that this was the first podcast I ever listened to when I first learned about podcasts many years ago . I’m still a listener and enjoy all of the format features like remembering history & science fiction university or just the hosts rants about daily life and family fun. Very insightful look into republican politics and the way it’s been weaponized to get us to where we are today. I can only imagine ,how , if anyone involved in politics, would have listened to you both ,how much better the world would have been today. Keep up the good work.

    So good
Awesome, autistic left wing ranting extremism. Really angry and fun to listen to.

    Normal centrist Americans
Drift glass says everything I grumble about inside my head, so I’m a fan. Living for the weekly David Brooks bashing, but need more Ross Douthat dragging... These guys go to church. They’re normal mainstream American Protestants, Fred Rogers style. Not the strange cult. I’m a religious skeptic, but it’s great to hear from normal people! Recommend this pod.

    Unable to play
For several weeks, I cannot play an episode of The Professional Left, either here or on Tune In. Are you having technical difficulties?

Propublica just broke this story of their investigation: Trump is using his media company to allow rich donors to buy a piece of Trump and reap the benefits in the form of government contracts and tax breaks if he gets elected again. The investigative reporting connects the new “Trump TV” to a streaming technology company in Melania’s home country (Slovenia) and to a rich Republican donor who had made millions off his relationship with Trump already.

Better than Rachel Maddow’s history podcasts
.. AND these drop weekly. They are also more timely, varied, and less overwrought and pretentious. If more voters listened, our electorate would be wiser and our country would be a better place.

    TikTok
I have enjoyed listening to this podcast for a while now, but it was pretty annoying what you had to say about TikTok in the first 30 seconds of today’s episode. I always find it stupid when people discuss things they do not understand with such conviction. Just so you know, a lot of your listeners, including myself, learned about your podcast from TikTok. I still enjoy your podcast, but please do better. It’s not the “data getting into the wrong hands” that Our government is worried about, it’s that so many people have access to first hand information and they can’t control it. It’s very suppressive, and everyone should care even if they’re not on TikTok.

Get the scoop for real, from real people
A listener for years. These folks cheer me up. In a sea of FOX News-poisoned people & news, these folks cheer me up. They call a spade a spade, intelligently & with style.

I absolutely LOVE these two political geniuses as they infuse their sense of humor into hard-hitting substantive diatribes against fascism and in defense of our great nation’s democracy.

Indictment of the right wing and mainstream news
A husband and wife team take on national politics and offer critiques against both siderism coverage by the mainstream and right-wing news machines. They have been at this game for a long time and they have a special vehemence against the David Brooks and Joe Scarboroughs of the world.

    I love these guys!
These guys are cool. I love the banter, commentary, and analysis. Love listening to their perspectives. They are “hoot” to listen to. Give it a shot.

    No fair remembering stuff
I love this show, but I especially love the no fair remembering stuff episodes. They are they history lessons of the near past that don’t get discussed. Thanks BG and DG!

My favorite podcast. Always feel like I'm sitting at the kitchen table talking with friends

    Totes regular
Loved the Tim Miller book review, and the analyses of Charlie Sykes, the Rush Limbaugh of Wisconsin, and how the right has lost any sense of recent history. The right really does despise the left, and when pinched forces them to exclaim, “I’m an independent!” 🐰🥬🥕The humor slays me. DG anticipate BG’s timing + responses with extremely funny introjection.

    For Love of the Cause
If podcasting (or anything) was done purely for love of country and concern for those who live in it, instead of $$$, this would be it. DG & BG are TRUE patriots who are unafraid of calling out those who would eagerly shred the Constitution and enslave the working class for a few dollars more. It is incredibly reassuring to know, every week, that the Pro Left Podcast will show up in my feed and let me know what's REALLY going on. LISTEN!!!

    Funny, sincere, entertaining, smart
I love this podcast. Driftglass and Blue Gal have their act together and it's great to know they're out there, keeping the liberal flames burning. What I like most about the show is that they don't try to pander to "both sides", don't attempt to stay in the middle somewhere, and don't apologize for being liberals. I support the show every month - best money I've ever spent.
  • Ped_EkSing
    A little overdone
Went back and listened to ALL the back catalog... good shows, but Driftglass does get a little militant. Then again, with todays GOP, maybe a little militancy is needed.
  • DrTurkeyt00tz
    Sounds great, but content stinks.
Deluded, out-of-touch libs consider themselves "left," but they’re just another voice for the obsolete, shady Dems. it’s sad & infuriating. Don’t waste your time.

Dripglass n BlueGal bring the don’t EVER forget what the Cons have been doing for 40 years hammer always. No forgetting what you did Charlie Sykes. David Brooks.

    Contracted Terminal TDS
I used to listen to Drifglass and Bluegal religiosly. I had even sent in a picture of my cat for the weekly pet thing Bluegal used to do. But then Trump came along, and Driftglass and Bluegal contracted terminal TDS. I can only handle so much insessant crying. It's the same reason I stopped watching Bill Maher around the same time. I didn't agree with them all the time, but I liked listening to them. However the constant whining and moaning about Trump just got repetetive and boring. So I thought I'd come back after a while to see if they've wised up only to find they are now also on the "BLM is great, the riots are justice" bandwagon. Such a shame.

    David Brooks every week
Fun podcast until every week they spend 15 minutes talking about David Brooks every week

Professional Left Podcast Has Made Me Close to an Idiot
Since early adulthood I have lived by the axiom ‘if you agree with 100% of another person’s political opinions, you’re an idiot’. No person capable of independent thought agrees 100% with another on subjects such as politics, religious doctrine, gender roles in a free society, or how to make the perfect fried egg breakfast sandwich. But when it comes to The Professional Left podcast with Driftglass and Bluegal, I’m pretty darn close to an idiot. The show is basically a lovable pair of soulmates discussing current events, how they relate to the political climate, expressing their opinions, and most importantly explaining how they have arrived at those opinions. They also critique the motives of nationally known political pundits (helpful hint: don’t pick ‘David Brooks’ as the cue to take a shot if you’re playing a drinking game - someone will die of alcohol poisoning) and the mainstream corporate media that supports them. They do all of this with humor and somehow create a degree of intimacy with the listener that makes listening more like listening to a couple of good friends talking as you sit drinking with them in your living room. Driftglass is like that high school teacher who loves discussing science fiction books and old episodes of ‘Star Trek’ and whose occasional pearls of wisdom he dropped remain every bit as relevant and profound to you now that you’re an adult. Bluegal is like that sweet, thoughtful mother of a grade-school friend who you wished your own mom was more like. But I warn you - when Bluegal chokes up discussing certain issues, you will find yourself choking up along with her, and when the podcast ends you’ll feel compelled to call your own mother just to see how she’s doing. The hosts also share stories about their family, their kids, cats (internet kitties) and daily lives. And they feature a picture and bio of an ‘internet kitty of the week’ which they post to their website and Facebook page. It’s actually ‘pet(s) of the week’, as they feature all sorts of different animals that get sent in by listeners, even sheep. Driftglass and Bluegal have been turning out a podcast every week come hell or flooded basement for a decade and I’ve been listening for the past seven years. Like many, I don’t know what I’ll do with an hour on Friday evenings or Saturday afternoons if they ever stop.
  • TheTanMan13
    Best political podcast available
Driftglass and Bluegal are a lovable couple offering an educated take on the state of politics. No sponsors to color the debate, just ripping people to shreds for lying to the American people. I listen every week and look forward to Fridays when the new episode drops like my friends do for Game of Thrones. Check it out, then sit back and smile.
  • Andy Sarchus
Best Political Talk Outside the Beltway
Another title for the show is “Both Sides Don’t”. You do not want to be taken prisoner here if you’re a Republican. Driftglass’s weekly lacerations of middle-ground conservatives such as David Brooks are spot on. If you have ever responded to a blistering denunciation of trump by tut-tutting how you don’t like his tweets, avoid the Cornfield at all costs! At the Professional Left, emotions are real and sometimes raw. Given the horrendous health crisis we face, brought about mostly by Republican policies and trump’s incompetence, compounded by trump’s narcissism and lack of basic humanity, this podcast is a shot of strong medicine to cure any lingering doubts. Plus, there’s the Internet Kitties, who somehow manage to stay above it all.
  • Jamie DSK
    Kinda cute but one note
Mostly this show is about recapping how bad Trump is that week and then one of the hosts going off with the toldjasos for the rest of the show about how he predicted it. The thing is, everyone knows trump is bad and everyone’s known this was coming. So what’s the point? I guess they’ve branched out a tad into holding the stinky water for the dnc, so to be fair, I shouldn’t say one note. Edit: easy unsubscribe and one star. They’ve moved into know-it-all scold territory. They’re like 10 years older than I am. I simply can’t stand it. There’s reasons why people feel the way they do. Cornfield resistance lol. One of them just said they’re voting for recently dropped-out Warren. Everyone is going nuts. No one seems to take things seriously anymore.

    Even after nine years,
Timely, perfectly on point, always relevant, and a huge relief from holding your breath for the past week while facing the idiot mob for the past week. They should do two a week.
  • Mesndblues679
    Obnoxious
Two twits who want to control the world with no self-awareness. Really pitiful that anyone would consider this drivel being worthy of consideration. They actually believe that the mainstream media is pro republican. Not just “you know who”..oh no,..nbc,pbs,....Pravda... Should only be listened to for entertainment purposes only.

The perfect antidote to the relentless "bothsiderism" bombarding us from just about all mainstream media. You'll get a laugh or two out of it too. You have to be informed to fight back against Republican atrocities being perpetrated. They show the way opinion is manipulated by gutless media outlets, chasing ratings' dollars, not the truth. They're just a couple struggling to provide for their family in this dog-eat-dog world who everyone who has also struggled to keep their head above water can identify with.

TPL is one of the top ten progressive webcasts
TPL is my best progressive source for deep media analysis. Both the hosts are writers and artists who give this weekly labor of love a unique lens on American political culture. Both of them are funny and literate. It is clear that the conversation they are having is a distillation of a running discussion in their house every day.

    Blue Gal
I listen to this podcast for a few years. I finally got tired of hearing about Chuck Todd and David Brooks. If Blue Gal had her own podcast I would listen to her.

    Less tv pundit bashing please
It’s nice to have our eyes open to the “both sides” arguments so many tv talking heads use, however these resisters could help out other Democrats stuck in soy bean and cornfields as far as the eye can see. A little more focus on what we can actually do to fight and flip our government over towards a more humane and inspiring institution could replace a Chuck Todd rant or a David Brooks diatribe.

Nothing about this podcast is leftist
It should honestly be illegal for centrist podcasts to advertise as if they are at all left. The podcast says nothing from a socialist perspective.
  • PL1952
    a must listen
I would not, have not and will not miss a Professional Left broadcast. Two brilliant observers of the modern scene living real, struggling American lives. There is no better pure critique of the Beltway and corporate news media than that offered by driftglass, aka Mr. electrico on twitter, on his blog or on this podcast.

    Hope from the Cornfields
I've been listening for several years and these two give a fresh take on American politics. Marvelous framing of the important issues. Thank you Blue Gal and Driftglass! I've a few critiques, but those are for another venue.

Great podcast for a progressive retrospective of the week. A true and sincere take and on the insane time we live in.

Valuable insight and history lessons from the cornfield
Driftglass and Bluegal offer weekly recaps of the political news and newsmakers, insight into the shenanigans of the bad actors on the Right and the history and “here we go again” connections that I need to make some sense in the current climate.
  • Way of Cats
    Here’s your weekly therapy session
I have long read their blogs, and hearing them on their podcast is twice as good. Helps me keep my grip and focus on the goal. A highlight of my weekends and then I listen again because I might have missed something!
